Problem with W7

Hello;

I'm having an issue with a JL W7 12inch. I have it hooked up in my house to a 400 watt rms 900 max amp. Problem I'm having is when I turn it up loud, it stops making a 'bass' sound. It.. I don't even know how to describe it. It just doesn't sound deep at all. The box is small and ported. I'll take a picture.

do you know what ohm load your at with the sub and what the amp is capable of pushing at it's lowest impedance, you may be at too low of an ohm load for the amp.

Honestly, I'm completely new to this. I bartered the hell out of craiglist for a few months with various items to afford this so I could start getting i.to Audio. Is there a way to test how many OHMs the amp is putting out?

the amp doesn't put out ohms it's power output is determined by the ohm load the speaker represents in the form of impedance slowing or limiting the flow of power from the amp, so do you own a digital multi meter? or have you pulled the sub from the box? If so how are the wires running from the subs terminals to the amp on the terminals it will tell you the ohm load how you wire these terminals determines the final ohm load the amp will see.

Ahh I see, sorry for my arrogance in car audio. I'll pull the sub right quick and check, give me a few. Thanks for the help man

is there another set of terminals on the other side of the sub or just that set?
That's the only set of Terminals, that means it's a single voice coil right? So it's 1ohm?

Did u really just pull that dub out by the surround? lmao
That's where the screws are.

no 3 ohms if thats the only coil, now find out what kind of drivers(ohm load) that amp was hooked to, and that will be one problem out of the way but 3ohms should be fine I've done two ohms on cheaper ones but they made very odd sounds at 1ohm and .5 but only odd sounds never even tried to work at those loads it is possible your not going to have enough power to drive that speaker and your distorting it but I really don't know without hearing it.
