So quick background. I own a Miata, I installed a pair of Polk Momo component speakers in my car last year, running of my POS stock head unit. This summer I had my brothers old head unit put into my car so I could use the AUX on my iphone. Well right after the install I was told my left tweeter wasnt working, "no problem I said" and was on my way. Get home, take a look, everything seems fine, and tweeter magically works. As time went on my tweeter randomly kept cutting out, I found that wiggling around the aux connected to my iphone would fix this, this lead me to believe the aux wire simply needed to be replaced, no biggie... Except now my tweeter doesnt work at all, and it doesnt seem to have anything to do with the aux cable, if i change the source to the radio the tweeter still makes no sound. Ive taken the head unit out to have a look, no loose wires seem visible. Took the doors apart and the wiring there seems fine too. After switching the tweeters around I realized that the tweeter indeed did work, and that the problem seems to be the crossover, it looks perfectly fine to me, however. And Ive been under-powering these speakers the entire time so Im not sure how I could have damaged the crossover. My question is... Is it the crossover thats truly fried? Could it have to do with my HU being junk? Is this something I (with my limited knowledge) can even attempt to fix?
Id prefer to attempt to fix this myself since I dont really trust any of the audio installation guys around my area... any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
