Problem with Kenwood x493

I just changed out my stock cd player in my 98 4runner with the Kenwood x493 and it sounds much worse. When I adjust the bass from 0 to the max 8 there is almost no audible difference. The stock unit had much more bass,I would appreciate any tips,tricks etc. I have tried reading the manual and it is horrible.
