Problem with Kenwood KCA-iP 500?

So I have a Kenwood DDX812 (non-nav), and I JUST got the KCA-iP 500. My iPod nano is version 1.1.3 software (the manual says 1.1.1 and up) and NOTHING shows up on the iPod or the HU. It is connected correctly so...

I'm at a loss...anyone got any suggestions?

Are you sure they are compatible?The 812 is new and the ip500 is an older version of the ipod cable,I think you need the 200 or 300 series of ipod cables

Man I'm dumb...

I just assumed they were all compatible. Is there any INTERFACE like this one that will work rather than just the 300? I would really like the interface box if there is one.
