problem with home network (xp)

I recently networked my comp (xp pro) with my roomates laptop (xphome). When im playing an mp3 from his computer the song starts to lag about half way through. Were using a linksys wireless router (wrt54g) as a swithc in my room.

Is there anything i can do to fix this besides running another cat-5?
