Problem with DEH-P4800mp

I just got a deh-p4800mp head unit, installed it in my car everything works so far except I'm trying to enable to the auxiliary input so it comes up as a source when hitting the source button. Read the manual says turn of the deck , press and hold function key until clock appears and then hit function again to switch to aux on/off w/e... The function key works find, even when the deck is on if I press and hold the key it recognizes I held it because it goes to a different screen then when just pressing it quick, yet when I turn of the deck and hold the function key down, it does nothing? I'm really lost because the key seems to be working properly but it still won't do what the manual says it will do.. any insight? and yes the deck is used but good shape

try pushing down and holding the silver dial. That is what I do when I want to access options while the unit is off on my 6800.

np, took me a few good weeks to figure that out. I don't read manuals.
