Last weekend I installed a Boston Acoustic G2 sub powered by a Boston Acoustic GT-22 amp in my 06 Z. After the install I drove around for a good hour to "test" out the new system. As I was "testing" all of a sudden the sub totally cut out. First thing that came to mind was I that my inline fuse blew, I checked it, it was good. Then I proceeded to check the 2 fuses in the amp, they were good as well. Lastly I had to unscrew the sub and take it out of the box to check the fuses on the sub. After I popped the sub out I noticed one of the 5amp fuses on the sub was blown, I replaced it and proceeded to screw the sub back in. Then, it happened, the screwdriver slipped and I poked a very minor hole in the foam surround. Man ....I am accident prone!!! So I turned the car on and took a listen. I didn't notice any distortion from the newly poked hole, and I turned my gain down from 75% to about 50%.
My question is why in the hell did that fuse blow?? This sub is "supposed" to be able to handle the amount of wattage the amp is pushing out.
And my other question is. Is that small hole eventually going to turn into a big hole and cause big problems?
