Rock the house.
So I bought a new to me amp off someone without being able to test it. I opened it up, looks beautiful on the inside.

I power it up and it protects, plug in a speaker and it just pulses.

Took it to a shop and paid them to test it (stupid idea) and they told me the same thing, said it looked fine but definitely screwed up.

This was a semi-local deal..guy is a few hours away and we met at a store parking lot. I have no way of getting a refund.

Anyone know what could the problem could be? Or someone who can fix amps cheap?

Otpi 4k... and my buddies dc 3.5k that I planned on buying does the same thing he said. Two completely unrelated issues/amps though. I took this into a shop and they told me I got screwed

Prolly just a small resistor or two inside I have a local repair guy that has dealt with this before
Contact info... hopefully not too expensive. Now I know what everyone else feels when they get ripped off. Wasn't too expensive but when I'm trying to pay for school and hobbies it's a big hit for me financially.

LOL. Amplifiers don't have user serviceable things to do to keep it from going into protect. If it's not functioning properly DO NOT cheap out and give it to a friend of a friend who fixes things. Send it to one of the legit repair shops and bite the bullet to have it repaired right the first time.

I repeat NEVER cheap out on amp repair.

IS this the one you were trying to sell to me
Nope, this was one I just bought local(ish) went from oregon to washington for it... to strap since you didn't want mine. I no longer stand by Opti's being solid amps though after this. If I sell these I will post that one is either not working or repaired (if it happens) and you can come into my thread and make sure lol.

Figured the guy mylows10 would have a legit repair guy/shop? Do you have any suggestions that you've personally dealt with? If I'm getting it fixed it'll be done right. Not sure if I should sell the two Opti 4ks after this one is repaired or keep them and strap em'. Is it worth repairing?

Look up TheAmpLab on fb if you don't mind shipping your amp across the country up to Maine. He is up by me and very very good, but shipping may cost.
The guy bought it brand new about 3 months ago. He's likely willing to tell me where he got it from. Think it's under warranty still? I haven't looked into the warranty on it yet.

edit: even if it's under warranty, I removed the back plate to look at the board. Efff.

Think the opti 4k is worth getting repaired if it's not under warranty? and I've contacted TheAmpLab, thanks!

SoundWest in Tacoma repaired my JBL/Crown 6K. They were really great to work with, did a bang-up job, and not too far from you. Recommended to my by JBL/Harmon.

Zedaudio will also do good work, he's just north of Los Angeles. Those are the west coast guys I can vouch for.

IDK who Mylows uses so you'll have to ask him for that person's resume.

My point is that it is very important to find a shop that really understands how and why things work because they will understand how and why yours failed and be able to properly correct the situation. There's been a lot of fly-by-night guys that just replace the obvious stuff and it may work great, or they may overlook the root cause of the problem only to leave you holding the bag with a blown amp again a month down the road.
