Powerbass Xtreme question...

I have a 12" Powerbass Xtreme sub sitting in my room, which is currently awaiting an amp. I have heard many stories of this sub being power hungry, others tell me no. They say they are rated per coil, some say no. I am a bit confused and need to find out so that I can get an amp for it. It is a dual 2ohm model XS 12Dv.2 800watts rms and 1600watts peak. I was wanting to throw about 1000watts @ 4ohms, but dont know if they are rated per coil like some people say. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I'm not sure on the rated per coil.But they don't "need" a lot of power to get going.I had a customer with 2 12" XS's @1 ohm on a BX1500D, built a 5cf. box tuned to 35hz.Ran 1/0 for the amp.The car was a 2003 galant.So in reality, the subs might have been getting 500-600 watts per.No problems flexing the winshield, and hurting at least the customers ears.Killed his 15" brahma ported by a HUGE margin in output.Not sure on the specs. of the box of the brahma though, I didn't build that one.

So, in short.No you don't "need" a lot of power.But power never hurts.Can't help you on the rated per coil though.After 20 min. of solid play the subs never even got warm.The amp ended up blowing up 30 min. later lol.Was replaced with an ED NINe.1

Same happened to me, I had it @1ohm on a DEI 1100D and it fried it. I am building a 3.00 box tuned @35hz. It is just the power issue, that I am skeptical about. THANKS

My sub stayed fine it was just the DEI 1100d that fried. I only got to play it for about 5 min. and d**n did it wang.

Oh my bad, just re-read lmao.

Yeah, managed to kill another ED NINe.1 too lmao.But when that one went it fried the leads on one of the 12's.Not sure why.Had to get it reconed even though the coils were ok.

For the 30 minutes or so it was working the first time, it was pretty **** impressive.I'd give one up to 1500ish daily.

Looks like the same thing here, fried the amp, that is what I am trying to avoid. I was told 1500watts would be alright as well. I just didnt figure how one sub could handle that, that is the question on the rating per coil, they might be since they can take the power. I am going to give it 1100watts see what it does. If you say 1500ish, may be I will just use the amp in my avatar, it puts out 1600@1ohm. I just dont want to do any electrical upgrades, that is the main reason I dont use this amp.

Well I have done that, but keep hearing differant opinions on the amount of power to throw at it, and alslo about the rating being per coil:eyebrow: . You have a good point I may just call them, I was just wondering if anyone on here has used one and what kind of power they threw at it.
