Post your grades.

Not with those grades... especially that C- in physiology. Where do you plan on applying to grad school?
I'm IN grad school. This is my first professional year of pharmacy school (the third year). It is also the second hardest year out of the 6 I'll be going. The C- in Physiology was about the average, especially considering the teachers screwed us on two tests due to an issue with a few invalid questions they made up for the tests.

Eh I don't see how the rest of the grades are so bad anyways, all B's. Biochemistry ain't exactly what I call easy, so for those Business/sociology/psych majors doubting my future pharmacy skills, get bent //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif lol the class is rough and I'm getting through. My roommate is pre-med and we have the same course load. Pharmacy should really be given more respect.

Hah I meant respect for the schooling we go through. The actual job is a joke, and we make good money for doing it too. So I can't complain

Its funny that the only class we REALLY need to use in the pharmacy is this pharmacy calculations class I had to take this semester. I think a 6th grader could pass it with flying colors. Example: If this prescription calls for you to take the pill 4 times a day, for 10 days, how many pills do you need to hand out? If each pill is 325mg, how many mg total will be dispensed? I mean come on...

The reason I'm saying this is because I'm a biology major with a pre-pharmacy option. Oregon State's pharmacy school is very tough to get into, they only grant 150 or so interviews out of thousands of applicants, and accept about 70 each year. I know many friends of mine who have not even been granted interviews because of a C in biochem, physiology or microbiology. You have a huge advantage if you have a 3.5 or higher to get into OSU's Pharm.D program, as well as two SOLID references, and two really well written essays.
I plan on applying for Fall of 2009.

What pharmacy school are you going to, and did you do all of your undergrad work there? Can you give me a little run-down of your application process?

Ahhh you see, you're planning on applying to pharm grad school. Thats rough man, not easy to do. I was thinking of doing that with Rutgers since they offer a 2+4 program where you have to reapply after the first two years, but then I opted to just go to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia instead (also know as Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, heh... PCP, yes, ironic). If you get into the school initially, as long as you maintain over a 2.5 cumulative GPA going into the 3rd year, and a 2.3 every semester after that (passing all your classes of course), you're fine. So basically I did all my undergrad work (all the gen chem, bio, calc 1, English classes, anatomy, organic chem, physics, etc) there the first two years, and had the GPA to move into the 3rd year. So now I'm in my first professional year, and have to maintain that 2.3 GPA.

Lots of luck to you if you are looking to apply to Pharmacy school. It is not an easy process to get in if you don't just go straight into the program from the start. (as you already know, you need some great grades and references)

I love my pharmacist.. gets me all the good stuff.. yeah i hurt, but the stuff the doc prescribes and the drugs the dopeman hands me makes it so i just font give a F*ck about it any more.. but hell if I ever want to go through their schooling, F that. Ill stick to controlling Aircraft.

Well then, that explains it. That's weaksauce that you only have to have a 2.5 to get in, and maintain a 2.3 while in the grad program. I guess it's justifiable since they are basically giving incentive to be an undergrad at PCP.
What's ironic is I was born in Philadelphia, and moved to Oregon at middle school age. I thought about applying to PCP, but went to OSU instead because of in-state tuition, and it being closer to me. The pre-school/pro-school approach is what OSU does with our engineering program, so there's no need to officially "apply" to grad school; if you have the grades, basically you're in as long as you did your undergrad there.

Congrats on being in pharmacy school, not an easy feat.

Well it is not just PCP that has those requirements. Rutgers has the same thing, and most other 6 year (not the 2+4 like I said, and what you are thinking about) programs do as well. You're better off at OSU I think. PCP is a rather small school and you are limited in your faculty choice, which really sucks for classes like Physiology (where we all get screwed as a whole, leading to that C- I got along with most of the class). I DID get good grades in highschool despite not trying too hard, and I got a half decent SAT score, so thats mainly what got me into the pharm program.

Well, OSU's pharm school has such high requirements that it's scary. Two of my buddies who were one year ahead of me both applied, and neither got interviews. One was a 3.8, the other a 3.75. It could have been because they had sub-par essays, or blew goats on the references, which both are possible.

According to my adviser, last year's entering class had an average undergrad GPA of 3.6, so it's a surprise to me to hear that a 2.5 or so will get you in at Rutgers to PCP.
