Post pics of toasty voice coils for my roomate

I have only melted one that wasn't on purpose. It was a 10" JBL that came in a tube enclosure. It was rated at 200 watts, I think. A Punch 200DSM bridged to it did the deed. When I cut off the dust cap, the coil fell out looking like I'd emptied an ashtray //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Hey is that a picture of what happens when a coil bottoms out, the illusive coil Hicky? I also take it that was a aluminum cone and that subs was the pre 5200? Polo..
yep thats the voice coil tattoo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That was one of the many 5200ish proto's that I had in my possession. All of them met similar deaths due to poor design. It was actually my job for TC sounds to blow them all up. Yay me.

They did burp a pretty good score, I had one do a 155.6 in my marble box, but as you can see it only did a few of these burps before its demise.

Ever burp a modern day 5200? I have mine on a IA 40.1 on 16V and I just love it. TC still offer recones for the 5200 tops or is that a done deal? Here is my backup sub, just came in today! Polo..

Tthey never changed the spider design as I suggested many times. It still just has two spiders. Alumnium or titanium - it doesnt matter. Unless you've slapped on a couple more somehow, I dont see why yours wont end up like the rest of them if you're doing 5kw+ burps with it. Good luck though.

But as far as recones go, who knows with those guys. Might have better results making your own recones with ordered parts from nuway and coils from Econowind.

edit : I wonder if your 5200 has one of the coils that TC sounds got from ecnowind then unwound half of the coil then reglued the wire leads back in place?

apparently the back plate likes to steal the formers lunch money in pa fubr's ,lol
That former didnt get all bent up from the backplate.

Your coil slid off the former. Once the coil was laying in the bottom of the gap...the former smacked it a few times. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
