I don't think OP is correct. I think some of those things come into play when you try to switch jobs or something. However, as long as I can get reimbursed for sunglasses, I am good.

There are provisions to make you switch after either one or five years, depending on the nature of your insurance.

It's your option whether or not you wanted to be on your company's plan in the first place. You could have chosen your own plan if you had liked...but you didn't. You don't have to be on your employer's plan if they switch to the federal plan, it's your choice.

I'm just going off of what I read a while back when it was first being proposed. I haven't read the article you posted. If that's the case, then fuck the plan. I'm all for it to help people out, but in no way should you be forced to switch.

so why wouldnt everyone opt for their price insurance companies from the get go then?

Insurance through my company is 50-100 a month if i wanted it, private i imagine im lookin at 200+. Why wouldnt i want to use my supplied insurance if its offers the same as a private supplier?

My buddys dad doesnt have insurance but it didnt stop him from paying $30K+ when his daughter got sick.
