Being a firm supporter of the 2nd Amendment is exactly why I wouldn't live in the state of New York for love nor money.
I listen to a lot of AM talk radio in my work truck (I can keep a signal much longer than I can any given FM station) and heard this story maybe a year ago as a prime example of the above:
Some guy that lived in Florida got transferred to New York by his job. Bear in mind that while residing in Florida he was a law-abiding legal gun owner - firearms were properly registered and such (we have to go through no such insanity in Louisiana...as long as you pass the background check there's no registration or permit hoops to dance through excepting carrying concealed)
Upon moving his family and establishing a new home in New York said man was in the process of getting the proper paperwork filed in New York state to register his home defense weaponry - but to anyone that has had to do so you know this isn't an expedient process.
Before the all the NY-state red tape had been navigated he encountered a man having broken into his home. He was awakened by an out of place noise in the middle of the night and found an intruder in his sons' bedroom.
This unwelcome guest was issued a one-way ticket to the county morgue by way of a handgun(in his shoes I would have done the EXACT same thing - mess with my kids=your impending death)
The district attorney for whatever county that contains New York City (Allegheny, I think it was?) issued a statement that he had plans to bring charges against the father for murder, not certain which degree, due to the firearm that was used failing to be properly registered in New York state.
Insanity, I say!!!!
