Possible to hook up ipod like this?

Can I just use this to hook up my ipod without the add on ipod box? The deck isn't ipod ready and I really don't care if I can't control the ipod threw the deck.

if you can get it to work its not going to be much better than aux in which case i would suggest buying/ making an aux adapter for the price of 5-7 bucks
