posative bolt on alternator broke.. help

i needed to get like a pipe or something to make the wrench longer. anyways, i finally got it, got the alternator off, turns out there was a plastic piece sticking out with a piece of metal going through it, maybe like 2 or 3 inches long. then on the end of that was a bolt with the wire going to the battery. well it wasnt really a bolt, it was welded to the piece of metal in the plastic. so i took that off, it was all just bolted onto a screw. (are all alternators designed like this?) and i rigged it up and cut the plastic so i could just fit the ring terminals on that bolt. heres where it gets interesting, after wrestling with the alt. for a good 45 minutes getting it back on, when i went to release the tension to get the belt back on, the pulley snapped. it hasnt been my lucky week at all. so ill fix that tomorrow before work hopefully then ill be good
