Porting mids?

In the back of my car i'm going to be building a fiberglass box to house a custom component set consisting of 2 7" mids, and a couple tweeters with the crossovers of course. Would it be a good idea to port the 7"s to get improved midbass? this is an idea i just thought of and i have no idea if it is a good idea or not, but it seems to me like it would work well as long as the box size and port tuning was proper. thanks for your help

and just so no one says don't go with a rear stage, i actually like having speakers in the back, and i allready have a component set for the front.

yeah, 2 or 3 inches is more than enough

the purpose of porting something like a mid is slightly different than the purpose of porting a subwoofer.

even if the port is directed backwards, and isn't used to couple with the front wave of the speaker, using a port will help you get closer to the potential xmax of the speaker with your enclosure size, and power

if you use a program like bassbox pro, it will tell you what port size is required to reach xmax at your desired frequency range, but anything is better than nothing if you can afford the space
