Ported Vs Sealed for D6's

hey, i will be running 2 D6's and an orion 1200D

now Diamond Audio website has the specs of the recommended ported box with measurements of 14x32x18.5.. the 14 and 18.5 are fine.. but the width of 32in is too wide for my trunk.. the max measurement my trunk can take is maybe around 25... so what do i do?

i want SQL so what should i go for.. and with the ported measurements not fitting in my trunk, what are my other options?

You'll want them ported. I have a 10" M6 sealed and it's fine for me but I doubt it would be near enough for most people around here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can you not make the box 21x25x18.5 or something? You don't have to go EXACTLY to Diamond's box.

okay, this is going to be the first box i ever build... infact.. its going to e the first time i ever work with wood!!!

so i need.. NEED everyones helpp... pleaseee

in turns out the the specs from Diamond Audio for the ported box fits perfectly into my car, so i want to build one exactly to specs...

i have no tools.. no nothing.. i will have to buy everything from scratch .. iunno if i should admit to this.. lol.. but seems like alot of u guys do it here.. the tools i buy will probably go right back to the store once im done:rolleyes: except for ones that are useful for other things in the house!!!

i have a basic idea of where to start and what im going to need from HD.. i will be going there tomorrow to pick up my stuff... please tell me if im missing anything..

Jigsaw\circular saw

Brad nailer or nail gun

1"-1.5" brad nails, 1" -1.5" regular 2 toothed nails,

or wood screws 1"-1.5"

Drill

Wood Glue

Vibratory or belt sander

clamps

liquid nails

silicone

drywalls screws-for mounting woofer

weathering tape -incase of air leaks

Rotozip\dremel and the circle cutting attachment -for woofer circle

and ofcourse the 3/4 MDF wood

i will most probably ask HD to cut the wood for me into the sizes of the peices i want from whats provided on the cutlist of the posted link, if it would be better.. cuz it seems like its not easy to get everything straight and all.. im not sure if thats a good idea?

here are the recommended box specs by diamond:-

http://diamondaudio.com/products/pdfs/Dual%2012%20in%20Vented%2005.pdf

so after that.. what is the step by step procedure i need to take to get everything together.. ??

do i just align the wood and nail everything together.. and after im done with that seal it from the inside or do i seal first then nail.??

and ive seen on crutchfield tutorial that its best to use 2 peices of wood for the front enclosure peice where the woofer will be placed.. is that true? do u guys do it?

thank u soo much for helping this n00b out!!

well.. my other option is to get this:-

prodCarpetBS212V_750.jpg

i can get it for pretty cheap...

here are the specs:-

Model Number: BS212V

Description: Dual 12" Unloaded Vented Enclosure

Exterior Dimensions: 15-1/4" x 33-1/4" x 16" (HxWxD)

Tuning Frequency: 33Hz

Internal Volume: 3.0 cu ft

Construction:5/8" MDF with 3/4" Baffle

http://www.bassslammer.com/products/carpeted/BASSslammerBS212V.pdf

so these are basically my 2 options... either i build one.... or for almost the same price as building one i can get the bass slammer box.. which seems to fit almost Diamond's recommendations!

so what do u guys think i should do?

what about asking home depot to build it for me.. my friend told me that he knows a few peaple that had their boxes built by home depot for a small fee.. anyone know anything about that? he told me they will do it exactly how u want it!

NO

HD cuts wood for you on occasion , they dont make boxes...........

I installed this the other day in my RSX ,in a Audio Enhancers box,as a ported box this is the only subwoofer I have

ever installed that not only was loud it hit hard like a sealed box..........I have bought several ported boxes in my day from so called "Box Gurus" who thought they're shit didnt stink and they knew more than bigger MFGs....

they didnt...

I thought long and hard about getting a box built when I bought my M6mkII (basically the same as a D6, I reckon? Different dustcap than ^^^ at any rate) until I was allowed to audition a 'Hooker Box' prefab that was suggested to me by the shop I got the sub from. It looks good, is built like a tank, and sounds freggin' great...it's clean and unmuddy, gets plenty loud for a single 12" on 600 watts, and gets pretty durned low as well.

I can't say that a custom-built enclosure wouldn't be as good if not better but I can't bag on all prefabs anymore, either.

M6mk2 are the same as D6s FYI

So - what changed...the model # and that's it? Nothing changed in the build of it?
Identical in everyway

They just had a model name change, everything went from M's to D's

IE: TDX is a D9 (slight color change between the 2)

CM3 is a D3 (identical)

M6mk2 is a D6 (identical)

they also have a brand new D1,designed to beat up on JLW1's which it does easily

thats a nicee grille, where did u get it from?

i went to HD today, and i went to the carpenter, and showed hime the peices that i needed, he helped me out end everything, and showed me how he would cut everything, but then it turns out that i would need 2 sheets of MDF, each one costs $30, and they charge $1 extra for every car after the 1st 2, and theres like 20 cuts, so thats another 20, and plus taxes, thats almost $100 without all the carpet, glue and eveything else needed!

while if i go to get it professionally made, i would be paying just a little more! so i left that route, and im going to stick with the premade bass slammer box which is pretty close to manufacureres recomendations and im getting it for like $40!
