L7's and T1's and m3's

I have 2 12" L7's in a prefab on a memphis 1000d and i jus heard from two friends that the L7's blow quickly, i wanna kno wat can i do to prevent this or wat can i get that will get as loud as the L7's , im tryin to choose out of the m3's or t1's,WAT DO YALL THINK?

First off the kickers arent going to blow on you like your friend says unless its a user error. Sounds to me that your friend had the gains up to high. To maximize your subwoofers life, and to set the gain correctly you need a volt meter. You can go to your local radioshack and pick one up to set it up correctly. Another thing, I would get rid of the prefab box, but thats just me. Get a custom built box to its specs. I admit I wasnt much of a kicker fan, untill i gave in, and finally gave them a try. They are some pretty nice woofers, and they take all the punishment I give them daily nicely.

The L7's only "blow" if you do it. As long as your gains are set properly and the box is the correct size. They will last a very long time...

Your friends are correct in a way but not in another way. The L7 blow quickly when tuned to high in a ported box mostly from prefabs like the one you got. I blew a set because of my box and now have one custom made. Prefabs ****. If you have them tuned properly and the gains set accordingly they will last along time.

Any speaker can blow easily when improperly set up. Notice you said should be fine, should be in the correct installation. When setup correctly they should last a long time

You're right. But he is not asking if speakers can blow easily. He was told the L7 blows easily. Which is not true.

What I am saying is if the L7 isnt setup correctly they can blow fairly easy. Notice how there is alot of L7 refurbs because people dont set them up properly. Newbs grab L7 and get a prefab box then boom there they go. The kicker shop I bought mine from actuially recommended a prefab box and then another kicker shop told me youre going to blow those with that box. A couple weeks later there they go.

All this about prefab boxes...so it isn't a good idea to get one if im not much on making one and don't want to spend over 100 dollars for one?
