Ported or Sealed?

I just recently got a ported box(tuned to 36hz) and it only seems to want to play low notes. In songs it will hit low notes no problem but every higher range note, it would not play them. I'm guessing because its tuned to 36hz. I recently had a sealed box that would do great within its range of notes but i needed a bigger sub so I bought another. Would getting another sealed box give me a wider range of notes? I don't know too much about car audio so that's why I'm asking.

This may be a problem with your amplifier settings or you're using a subwoofer that does not play upper bass well. There is no reason a ported enclosure tuned in the mid 30s should prevent the subwoofer from playing as high as it can in a sealed enclosure. With a port tuned to 36 Hz the subwoofer is behaving like it's in a sealed enclosure from the mid 50s on up.
