Popping 100 A fuses like candy

google > joo

I know the answer but want to teach you how to use google. search 'viper d2500.1 fuse' and you too will know. also look at the required wire...i really think your a retard asking for a fire with one 6g from under the hood to the trunk. Its probably a dam good thting those fuses keep blowing...do you think its a good idea to starve amps for current and push them to their limits? You think that amp will last very long? Do you use the gains like a volume control too? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

QUIT TRYING TO BUMP TILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR WIRE!!!!

From that file:

Fuse - 200A

Minimum Cable #0 to dist block #4x2 to amp (power and ground)

So you have less then 1/2 theacceptable cable requirement for that amp. You can damage the power supply if you do put a 200A fuse in the 6 gauge cable from voltage loss
Thanks!

QUIT TRYING TO BUMP TILL YOU UPGRADE YOUR WIRE!!!!
Way to be an ***...

Dude, these guys are just trying to keep you from burning your car up. If you put a 250amp fuse on 6ga wire, you have just completely and utterly circumvented the purpose of fusing the wire. You fuse a wire so that in the event of excessive current passing through that wire (read: more current than the wire is rated for), the fuse blows instead of the wire melting.

You can't push 250a through a length of 6ga wire that runs the entire length of your car. 6ga wire is not thick enough to run that kind of current. it will get hot as ****, overheat, melt, and dead short against your car. Then, your shit will catch on fire and ****ing burn to the ground. Then, you will be on the forums going "hay guys i thawt you said 250a was the right fuse." Sure. 250a is the right fuse. ON A 0GA WIRE. Sure, you're thinking 'but i won't bump much'...but you just said you blew 2 100a fuses with your vehicle just sitting there charging the battery offa the wall charger. 100a is too much current for 6ga wire that long, and you've already proven that >100a is trying to go through that wire already. The 100a fuse blowing is saving that 6ga wire from melting. You're not supposed to run a higher fuse rating than that on 6ga wire.

Upping the rating of the fuse is a bad idea without first upgrading your wire and making sure you don't have any dead shorts causing the 100a to blow. I would put a 50a in there and turn everything off just to see if there's something shorting. You should have 0 current flowing through the wire with everything off and the fuse inserted. With amps on but barely outputting any power (extremely low volume), you should still not blow a 50a fuse. If you blow a fuse without the amps even on, you have a wiring problem most likely between the battery and the amp. If you blow a fuse when you turn your speakers on to extremely low volume, you may have a short somewhere along the speaker wires.

Take a look at http://www.bcae1.com/fuses.htm and read it so you understand what's going on here. Note the suggested MAXIMUM fuse size for 6ga wire is only 80amps. To push 250+amps you need 0ga or higher. I'm only pushing 40-50a in my car and i ran 4ga.

Dude get some 0awg wire OR szince you think its too hard to run atleast do 2 runs of 4awg one for the audiobahn and one(still too small!) to the viper. i'd just take the plunge do it right and run 0awg (only $40 from welding supply so you have no excuse)

i just hope you dont burn down your car or hurt your amps!

The audiobahn was just an example. I took it out and will be selling it soon, along with my 15 w0 and 2 10w3v2's.

Okay... well ill just be the real noob i am with 0 guage and ask how the hell am i going to do this. Run a foot or two off my battery (i just use a regular circle end on my battery right?) then connect my new fuse (that i will be getting...somewhere), then run the 0 guage back to my amp... (is it bad if i run it under my car and come into the trunk from beneath my car?) Then... where? I have a 1 farad cap... would i need to hook it up? Also.. 0 guage obviously wont just plug into my amp. How do i downsize without sacrafice to plug it into my amp?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Take the 0gauge and run it from your batt with a fuse inline within 18" of the batt -- run the wire back to the distribution block for your amps, and then run wire from that to your amps. That way you have a huge wire for the transfer of power to the trunk, and the distribution block will probably have some 1ga or 2ga or 4ga outputs for you, plus a 0ga input or 2. I've seen cables run underneath cars before, but i wouldn't do it personally. If you do, be sure you keep the wire insulated well, attached securely to the underside of the car and covered...and when you drill to bring the wire up into the trunk, be careful about what you're drilling into, and be sure the edges of the hole you drill aren't sharp enough to cut the insulation of the wire..considering it might get yanked on some //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I wouldn't bother with the cap -- i'd sell it and get a high output alternator instead, if you really pull 200a+ off of this system for any kind of extended listening (more than 5mins maybe? lol).

On a related note, You'll really want to upgrade at least the batteryframe of car ground to 0ga, and also the alternator groundframe of car ground. With the kinds of current you're pulling, that alternator is going to get a beating. Consider getting a better one. Really.

I need to get a dist block... i have a real cheap *** one that looks like i could probly run 4g in and like 8g out. I already planned on doing the big 3 with 0 guage. I talked to a couple people at my dads current job (he is a carpenter) and they are gonna pick up some 0 guage for me hopefully soon. Free 0 guage...doesnt get much better than that eh? I read the huge sticky on HO alt like 2 nights ago and planned on getting one once my bank account says im allowed. At this point and time i keep the headunit below 12... even that kills me if i listen to it for over 5 minutes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

EDIT: would a 140 amp alt work? Asking just incase... or should i go bigger?

140amp alt will work but if your running a single battery plan on blinking headlights. 0ga is really the only option when running 1500+ watts from an amp. and the way to tell what amp fuse you need it to do

wattage / voltage = amperage

so 2000 / 12 = 167amps

Blinking? shit i can ride my high beams now and if i crank the bass it goes pitch dark. Your saying i need atleast a 167 amp alt then? (if i run 0 guage im talking... big 3, back to the amp, with the fuse in it...to dist block) I dont need another battery do i? If i got one would it solve the blinking? Or is there another cure?

Thanks for all of the help... sorry if im overquestioning. I just love to learn before i **** up my good stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT: if i got a 200 amp alt is it overkill? Is it possible to be overkill? (with a alt made for my car...not some 22v shit)

LOL before you would not splurge for 1/0, now your talking HO ALT......one step at a time. Get 1/0 and a Dist block that accepts 1/0 and 2-3 4 gauge outs (2 go to the viper alone, third for second amp maybe....)
