POP goes the amp and lots of smoke! Low Voltage?

no amps are hard to kill, every amp is EASY to kill lol!
Again, you knew it was a figure of speech. It so easy to kill an amp, simply short out the wires on the output side or use a higher rated fuse or immerse it in water while it's powered even hooking it up to a powered AC socket are just the first things come in mind.

 
Must have a shorted wire somewhere that probably got pinched in your install. Since you have a DMM remove the connection from the subs and from the amp, do a continuity test on the bare cable. Do the same test to your RCA's, try isolate any short that can/will occur.
