poor mans alternator upgrade

I wanted more charging amps!! So i removed the stock ac comp. and installed a used delco 140a alt. on my jeep. Just thought id post some pics of it in case someone wanted to use this idea lol

well lucky enough for me (or unlucky either way lol) this jeep is an offroad toy aswell, and my condensor found a tree limb so the ac was inop anyway lol

I see a couple issues that may need to be addressed. 1st, the 3rd pic shows what appears to be/have a brown spot on the red wire, approx in the middle. Hope that's not a burn mark, because it looks like it. Secondly, the red wire from alt where you attached a connector needs some heat shrink tubing on there or wrap it with electrical tape. Will prevent failers in the future.

the brown stuff is old pl adhesive from the previous owner of the wire lol. As far as the lack of heat shrink..... I have no excuse, none on hand and i wanted to test it. Its been taped for the time being.

Most brackets are available for sale for these things.
Anyway, i wouldnt consider this a broke mans alt upgrade.

I purchased a 150$ bracket for my previous truck and bought 3 used stock alts from a junkyard for 60$ total.

Then used 2 external regulators to control all the alts. That was the best upgrade to get 220amps @ idle and 350+ at 1200 rpm. Way less then what my actual aftermarket alternator cost.

Anyway, i wouldnt consider this a broke mans alt upgrade.

I purchased a 150$ bracket for my previous truck and bought 3 used stock alts from a junkyard for 60$ total.

Then used 2 external regulators to control all the alts. That was the best upgrade to get 220amps @ idle and 350+ at 1200 rpm. Way less then what my actual aftermarket alternator cost.

I guess i just consider it a budget job because i made the brackets and used a spare alt. from my old truck lol. Only thing i had to buy was a slightly shorter belt.

i get 220a at idle with just two ad244's but theyre about 40 a piece from a junkyard and the bracket was 200 so it was more expensive but less alternators

How complex was it to build the brackets? My AC hasn't worked in a year or so and for the cost of replacing that I could probably buy another HO alternator and gain deebeez.

its was tricky, but theres plenty of room for mockup. I had to make a few modifications midway, but it worked out perfect. As long as you have a grinder with a cut off wheel and a welder anything is possible lol
