Polk SR series subwoofers?

I'm just getting back into the car stereo hobby after being away for a few years. I've been involved off and on since 1989 and I'm currently employed in the CE industry, but generally away from the mobile A/V side of things. It has recently come to my attention that I'm eligible for accomodation pricing on a few brands that my company carries, which happen to be in both the home and car stereo business.

Polk happens to be one these brands and they have a nice new line of subwoofers that are part of thier Signature Reference series. I've searched this board among many in an effort to find any information or experience with these drivers to no avail. Any insight?

I'm sure they're not bad. I guess it would depend on what kind of discount you get.

If you've been out a few years, here's what you've missed:

-Alpine Type-R's can get silly loud for cheap drivers. TCAB makes boxes for them that seem to be magical. Some of us hate TCAB, some of us love them, and some of us just like chocolate pudding.

-Remember how DD audio was the shiz 4-5 years ago? Well, now Resonant Engineering is the shiz...well was until a few months ago. Now they screwed those of us that don't have dealers near by.

-The Sound Splinter Rl-p and Stereo Integrity Mag are the SQL.... oh yeah, people now use the term 'SQL' which is a mix of 'SQ' and 'SPL'.... drivers of choice. The Mag supposedly sounds better and gets louder than the Rl-p, but you could almost get two Rl-ps for the price of one Mag. It's a pretty good argument.

-If you're looking for a new head-unit, look at the Pioneer P880-PRS. It does all the fancy stuff that all the super-expensive HU's did, but it's cheaper. No, I don't know how to work most of that stuff either.

-Every thing is louder, and people are using 2-3kw in daily drivers. That 600 watt amp won't cut it any more.

-Zapco is still expensive.

-Port your box. It's louder.

-Everybody is running 1/0 gauge wire, you should too.

-Looking for component speakers? Check out Rainbow SLCs if you're on a budget. Everything else if you're not.

-The new thing is taking video of the body panels on your vehicle flexing due to sound pressure. It's pretty neat.

Google any terms you are not familiar with.

Thanks for the replies. I would be purchasing these Polk's for less than what D6 Diamond Audio's go for on ebay. I also have access to Boston and I'm also seriously considering a pair of thier new SPG555 oval subs, which would be slightly more expensive than the Polk's already mentioned.
