Pod for door panel?

Ok, to make this short, my eDi 6500's don't fit in my 94 RX-7. The max depth I can get is 2.5" and they are 2.8" so basically, I was going to return them but then I thought, why not make a project out of it. What I want to do is basically fiberglass a pod over the door panel so I'll be able to fit the speaker but I don't know how I would do this. I have never fiberglassed before so yeah... total newbie. Also, how would the mold be able to mold onto the door and stay there?

I can't do actual kick panel pods because they will get hit with my foot. If they are attatched to the door it'll be fine.

Any pictures would be great.

the easiest thing you could do, if your door is flat in that section of the car, is get some 3\4" MDF and cut a nice circle about 1" larger than your speaker, and cut a mounting hole inside that to put the speaker in, do a 3\4" roundover along the edge and cover it in material to match your upholstry.

cut out a matching hole in your doorpanel, and mount the ring to your door panel, add sound dampening material to the back side of your door panel, maybe add some wood blocks between the metal of the door and the door panel and screw into those for some support, and mount your speaker in the hole with a grille to cover it.

if you are doing fiberglass for the first time - i strongly recommend NOT trying to make doorpods, try and make somthing simple so that you can understand how it works.

people always try to over engineer a project, when somthing simple like a MDF riser will work just as well - and be just as tasteful //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was wondering if you'd be able to glass the whole door because the door is very clean meaning there isn't locks or door handles or anything on the door there so perhaps, if I make a pod for the whole bottom of the door, I could glass the rest of the door and basically have the door painted a nice black. Here is a link to a picture of the inside of my car, can't really get a good picture of the door panel, but you get the idea, I'm going to take a picture when I go home.

As you see, the panels for the lock/door handle are already a glossy like black.
