Please help me, First Amp Install

Hey, I have 12 gauge speaker wire, but apparently there are no 12 gauge terminals that fit my speakers; What do you guys think about using a 14-16 gauge terminal and crimping it to my 12 gauge speaker wires??

Or my other option is to crush the 12 gauge terminals to the smaller speaker male terminals

What should I do?? Will either choice have an effect on the sound quality?

Just cut a few strands out of the 12 awg wire to make it fit the 14 awg connector. It should be just fine.

In order to get the speaker wire into the door I had to drill a hole into the frame of the car. The jacket over the speaker wires was pretty thick, so I didnt worry about a grommet, do you think I should hot glue it there or something so it doesnt move around?

ahh but it was hard enough getting the wire through the hole, theres no way in the world i'll be able to get a grommet into there. The positive/negative wires both have jackets, then theres a jacket over both the wires themselves...

a grommet protects the wire + it waterproofs the hole..

If I get some silicone stuff I can apply it to the hole to water proof it (and prevent the wire from moving), do I really need a grommet or do you think the 2nd jacket is enough to protect the wires?

The amp I bought came with some fuses in a bag, but it looks like theres already fuses in the amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Do amps usually come with extra fuses? Or do I need to put them in there somehow?

Also, I have everything except the speaker wire to the back speakers set up!

I have a harness for my headunit. Theres a white/blue wire on one end, and another white/blue wire on the other end that leads to my stock wiring. Do I disregard the 2nd end, and connect the white/blue wire to my remote wire I ran to my amp? (white/blue = remote amp turn on, on the instruction sheet for the harness)

Lastly, I can't fit a grommet inside the holes i drilled into the doors... Whats going to happen :X

make sure you have a fuse inside the amp or it will not turn on, make sure you have a fuse up front at the battery.

pull out the speaker wire, drill a slightly larger hole using a step up bit, insert a grommet, run some spilt loom tubing and seal it with silicone.

Everything is installed and nothing has exploded yet!

Now I have to adjust it the amp settings.... Any suggestions?

My front speakers are 2 ohm and can handle 60 watts rms (Infinity Reference 6822cf), the back speakers are 4 ohm and can handle 80 ohms rms (JL Audio cr690cx)

The amp is 75 watts RMS @ 4 ohms.

Its suposedly not built for 2 ohm speakers, but the guys at crutch field said the infinity reference speakers would probably be fine? so according to my calculations...

there should be a 2:1 ratio between the the 4 ohm 75 watt speakers and the 2 ohm 60 watt speakers.

So I'll set the power of the front speakers at half of the power of the back speakers, Right?

I have the input for both sets of speakers at half way up (hu @ 100% volume)

The infinity speakers can go up to 3/4 input until they distort, but when I turn the JL Audios input up past 1/2, the amp shuts off? (protective mode?)

I read the trouble shooting manual that came with the amp, and it said it may be because of a short in the wiring.

What is a short? And what could possibly be the problem? (if it even is a problem...shouldn't the JL audios imput be 2x higher than the infinities though?)

btw, I soldered the terminals onto the speakers (because they were slightly too big) but they're tight to the pull now. I also put bare wire into the amp itself because the spade terminals I got didnt fit in it.
