you sturrin at me brah?
planning to upgrade the midbass in my explorer, maybe get my highs and mids keeping up with my bass a little better.

what i'm wanting to do is keep my alumapro 2 way component set but go active on them with a kicker kx650.4 (120x4 @ 4 ohms) for now. in 2-4 weeks i'll be buying some high end midbass drivers, haven't decided which yet, most likely something from hertz and using my crossfire vr602 (300x2 @ 2 ohms) to run them.

the vehicle is a 98 ford explorer, fully deadened and almost fully sealed doors. i have the tweets mounted high on the door, mids mounted in the stock locations in the front doors. i'm assuming it would be a piss poor idea to mount the midwoofers in the door also, and i'm going to be wanting some custom kickpanels or something?

this is my first active setup, so bear with me here. being that my alumapro components are 2 way, and the mids are designed to cover a wider range of frequencies than i will be sending them... since i'm going to all this trouble anyway, would i be better off just going with an all new set of speakers, or will i be able to get good sound from integrating my 2 ways into my new 3 way set? i'm not exactly rich, so i wouldnt really want to spend more than 5-600 on all 6 speakers, and i'm already planning on dropping 2-300 on the midbass.

also, i read about my alpine deck not being able to adjust crossover frequencies within 4 positions of each other, saying how if you set 50hz as one adjustment point, you can't touch another until 160hz. that is saying for one range, you must have at least 50-160hz right? can anyone give me a ballpark figure of the crossover settings i'd be using in a setup like that?

get some 8's in the front doors 65-250 hz

I would get some 3.5- 5 mids for the kicks 250-4000hz

run your tweets in the kicks close to the mid 4000hz and up.

this is just one of many options out there. you will have to see what speakers you get and mess with the crossover points. many hours of tuning and testing. in the end its worth it. I have two dayton 8" in my doors from 50-250hz. two tangband 3.5 mids from 250-3500hz. two tangband tweets from 3800hz and up. i have the mids and tweets in my kicks run off a 100x4 and my 8's are run of a 200x2. it sounds really good and gets pretty dam loud. all the speakers cost about $300 at the most. check out partsexpress and madisound.

as far as just going active on the 2 ways, i'm not really going to notice any difference except maybe a bit more output since i can adjust the power going to the mids/tweets more accurately, right?

any problems with moving my alumapro components to some kickpanels, and adding dedicated 6.5" or 8 inch midbass drivers in the doors?

how will the tweets sound down so low, i would think legs/seats/consoles and such would block some of the sound, this will help with imaging but hurt overall volume that i hear from the tweets right?

what about leaving the tweets where they are high in the door, since i cut holes in my doors to put them there and would need to buy new door panels for it to look right? would it be possible, however difficult, to get a good image with the 6.5 in the kick, and 6.5/8 in the door, about 14-18 inches below where the tweets, which are just below the bottom of the a-pillar, in the door?

ok, how about keeping my alumapro 6.5 driver in the doors, crossing them over as dedicated midbass, moving the tweet down to some kick panels with a 3-4 inch speaker?

would i get better midbass out of the drivers by giving them a smaller band to play?
