I will prolly end up gettin a H&R //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Ruger is based out of Conneticut...I do think Strum & Rugers family line are German though. I am not sure where they are from.
i was told after wwII the people who made luger wanted to disassociate themselves with the nazi's so they made a new company called ruger and came to america or something.

get a ruger mark III .22, those things are so fun to shoot. cheap, reliable, overall great guns.
very cool gun, i believe they just came out with a newer model of it too. i would rather spend my money on something else. if you want, i have a ruger 10/22 40th anniversary model with a tasco scope on it that only has only been taken out shooting once. just never really use it. i would sell it if the price is right, FFL only.

Yeah, I would settle for something cheap. If anyone has a .22 rimfire pistol, hit me up if you wanna trade it or sell it or something.

I thought it was a 1996 gun, not a 1896. Hell, Iam not even gonna think about shooting this thing! I might look into sellin it tho, iam not in a desperate need to be strapped. I would be happy wit $200.The finish of the gun is a Blue finish, the grips look to be pearl, however there is no owl head on it. It may not be pearl, but looks like it except more brown, might just be from age.

THanks for your help.
i couldve told you that gun was old school.. my buddy's got a colt 45 from the early 1900s and it looks almost modern and it was issued to the US military back then and its in very nice shape.. your gun looks old school compared to it too.. ill take it off your hands for 150. i bet it still shoots just as good as it did back then..

I would be afraid to shoot it, but it seems to be in good mechanical condition, the trigger is a little stiff and hard to pull tho. It was made for black powder I believe, so it would prolly blow up with modern ammo.

If you are really interested, I will let ya know next weekend cuz my uncle is coming down, and he collects guns, so Iam gonna see what he knows about it and what he has to offer.

woot got some usefule info about my gun from someone on another forum:

"you have a second model 38 caliber large frame 'safety automatic hammerless revolver' the second model was manufactured between 1896 and 1908. the second model was also designed for black powder cartridge pressures and are not considered safe with modern ammo. this revolver with the five patent date markings and serial number D42XXX was manufactured in 1898, there were approx 33,000 of this model manufactured that year.

i am of the opinion it has been reblued. the grips appear to be of modern manufacture (brass screw) and are probably made of some type polymer. my guess is someone wanted something nice to hang on the wall so this gun was refinished and new grips installed. this is a good refinish because all three main parts are the same color (barrel, frame & cylinder). usually when a second model is refinished using modern methods the frame comes out red (or as some call it 'plum').

this is not a revolver you would want to fire because of its age. put it back in its display case it looks good there.

the reason your serial number letter code is different from what your found about pre 1898 revolvers is they were talking about the small frame hammer version of the safety automatic revolver. begining in 1895 iver johnson used a different latter code to denote the four seperate model of the safety automatic revolvers. they started with A=small frame hammer 32caliber, B=small frame hammerless 32 caliber, C=large frame hammer 38 caliber and D=large frame hammerless 38 caliber. these letter codes were changed after 100,000 had been reached in each model. the small frame hammer and large frame hammer actually have a new letter code for just about every year of the second model manufacturing era. the large frame hammerless used three and the small frame hammerless used 5."

w00torz, it is legally classified as an antique now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

BTW I know you can't sell firearms on ebay, but what if it is an antique not a firearm... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Oh, and someone else told me that the handle grips were not polymer as the previous dude stated, but buffalo horn. This dude claimed to be the "horn expert" so i am taking his word for it.

I love my Ruger...

Not too likely with a $200 budget...

For some applications a .44 Magnum is simply too much gun as the New Orleans PD found out when they got sued (and lost, bigtime) for multi-millions of dollars due to a civilian getting killed when NOPD still carried .44s
and your point? too much gun. a guns job consists of one thing, to kill. period. that gun gets the job done. if you want to talk too much gun, look at the raging bull line from taurus. .500 mag with like a 10" or 13" barrel.
