hello!

first time poster, long time lurker!

just wanted to reach out and get some advice on what set up i should go with. Here's a few things i'm looking for and adding to the HU:

  • back up camera
  • xm traffic
  • bluetooth
  • security bypass

as it stands now, here are my choices:

Pioneer Z1 or Alpine W200 w/Blackbird

from what i have read and heard, the Z1's navi is awesome. the only downside to this HU is the slooooow ipod interface.

now with the W200, i'm planning on getting the docking station for the Blackbird (when they arrive). but i'm afraid the Blackbird will not be up to par with my navigation needs and commands. i've heard it's quite slow to reroute. the upside to the W200 is the full speed ipod interface.

pls advise.

The first vehicle I installed a AVIC-Z1 in was a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and the customer also had the iPod interface and Bluetooth kit installed. The ipod interface worked quite well IMO, and it is nice to have the 10gb of music storage space built in to it (something you do not have on the IVA-W200, a product I also sell). Also, the navigation on the AVIC-Z1 is quite a bit nicer then what comes with the blackbird. Overall since your already spending basically the same amount of money as an AVIC-Z1 with the Alpine combo, I would reccomend the Pioneer hands down. Also, I forgot to mention but the bluetooth interface on the AVIC kills alpines Ai-Net add on kit.

Hope this helps with your decision

i forgot to mention, i am paying $400 more for the Pioneer set up vs. the w200 and blackbird.

since you sell/install ....... can you give me the lowdown on the xm traffic? is there a seperate unit i need to purchase to add to the HU or can i just subscribe?

thanks!

Yes with either alpine or pioneer you need a seprate tuner box for XM or Sirius radio and Navtraffic

If IPOd interface is a major factor, you need to toss the newer Eclipse AVN's into the mix. Nav is more than decent, it is simple to bypass (Alpine and Pioneer require a little extra), and in my experiences it is the best IPOD interface I have used.

thanks for all the input fellas, but i bit the bullet yesterday and went with the Pioneer Z1 with all the goodies.....xm w/nav traffic, BT, rear camera, bypass and steering wheel controls.

i'm picking it up tomorrow, i can't wait to start using it!

alpine has the best ipod set up. nothing beats the fullspeed cable they have.

but good choice. on the z1. they are probably the best for nav, and the rear camera is pretty cool too. i do a lot of thoes combos.

thought if i were to build a system off it, i would have gone eclipse.
