Im at a crossroads on what to install in my car that would offer the best SQ, and picture

I have the option of choosing a

Kenwood KVT717 DVD

Pioneer AVX-P8DVD + Eclipse 8455 (Are these units compatible?)

Kenwood DDX7017 (Double Din version of the KVT717)

I have to stay in the $800 maybe low $900s realm, those units are INCREDIBLY expensive. The eclipse/pioneer combo would be about $800-850 and the Kenwood models $875-925

in that case why not just stick to the one option that offers the best ergo/interface you want in your dash, and picture quality.....if you want SQ with that you can add external processing to accomodate your needs..

The AVX-P8DVD cannot function on its own as a dvd/cd player. It is a touchscreen dvd player but requires another reciever. I would use the CD8455.

that is a link to the pioneer, please read the description. It is a bit misleading and I cant really make out what it needs. Could I get away with an Alpine H701 processor and hook it up to the Reciever or would I need another deck all together?

If thats the case, sounds like a nice combo...

any specific reasons? How does the kenwood sound? The eclipse/pioneer has 8v vs the kenwoods 5v
i'm using the 7015 which only has 2v preouts and it sounds plenty fine when paired up with a decent components set and amp, the crossovers and drivers will have the most effect on sound, the amp next and then finally the HU. it all really depends on what you want out of a system. I origonally just wanted a system that could get loud. now I'm looking at getting the kds-p901 for the 7015 and then sticking a 30 band eq and active x-overs on each of the 5 channels. but thats only cause I'm bored and need something to blow money on

That Pio Flip actually has 24bit dac....you'd be wasting it in favor of lesser quality conversion on the Alpine just to add flexibility. And going

this route you still need a tuner...the dvd player will play cd's, but no radio tuner...

*"STANDALONE MODE: Allows connection and operation with any headunit that features an auxiliary input***

Have you looked into the Pioneer 5.1 processor for that unit?(DEQP8000)

no I havent, I do not need 5.1 though. What would be the best match? Would a signal processor be all thats needed for the Pioneer?
Then IMO all you need is you HU of choice with aux in along with that Pio flip...whether it be the Eclipse 8455, or even a matching 860mp.... the only 2 units that'll give the combination of high voltage preouts, 24bit conversion, solid EQ, and 3way active xovers.....your choice.
