Pioneer P6000UB iPod No Volume

I have a Pioneer P6000UB head unit and when I hook up my iPod (iPod Touch) to the USB cable, the head unit "sees" the iPod and I can scroll through my music or audiobooks by using the head unit, but when I try to play a song or audio book the iPod and/or the head unit thinks that its playign but I have no sound. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I have tried switching the controls to the iPod through the head unit's menu and it still doesn't work. I see that its playing, but no sound.

Re-set the Ipod (hold menu and center button until APPLE LOGO shows on screen)

then plug it back in

you now have sound again...
