pioneer p4100dvd video help

Having a hard time getting a disc with music videos to play on this unit. It says it can play avi files but that didn't work. Do i have to adjust the frame width and height? bitrate? I use Roxio to burn it as a data disc. I burn it to both a cd and dvd and it still doesn't work. Any help would be great, thanks.
