Pioneer HU ground......I searched!

I did a search, but didn't get a very clear answer.

I will be installing a Pioneer DEH-P6800MP this weekend into a 93 Grand Am. The harness for the Grand Am has a ground wire built in, as does the harness for my HU. Is it necessary to ground to the vehicle chassis (behind dash), or will the factory ground location suffice?

In my search, I found both ways stated. Which way should I go? Just try the factory ground and see how it works?

Factory will work, but since they use a common ground, it's not always best. I usually use factory, if I can't get a good reach on where a good ground would be.

with my pioneer 6900, i found the factory ground worked the best. I tried grounding to the vehicle chassis and it ended up making way more background noise. But it could be the car. Hook it up both ways and see which works better.

I have never had a problem (OK maybe one or two) using the factory grounds through the harness (Probably 500 GM deck installs)

You should be OK using the factory ground, and I'm glad to hear you are using a harness and not being like the other DIYers thinking they can be superman when doing an install.

HAHAHAHA... reminds me of this car I got in the other day.

They tried to pull a superman DIY audio project. Among the worst features of their pro install:

1) Several airbag wire harnesses unplugged. I instructed the trainee not to fn touch it and write it on the invoice.

2) Attempted deck hardwire, a miserable fail, they clipped it with a half inch of wire left on the harness then tried to tape the wires together without even twisting them, let alone soldering or even crimping. In their attempt they also blew the whole deck as well as the radio fuse in the cars fuse panel.

3) They had one coil on each dual voice coil sub wired, and the screws were wtripped so the only thing holding the wires in was that they were wadded up so tight. Guess its a good thing they didnt get it playing...

4) Also a good thing they didn't get it playing because of course they didnt use 4 gauge spade connectors... and about half of the strands of the ground were touching the 12 v +

5) They used some shitty prefab box that was heavily molding on the interior.

I can just about guess you already know they didnt run the wires or properly fuse so I dont need to tell you that.

Sorry, but amongst most of my installs, the factory ground has sufficed.
