i have a 960mp and i jus got the mic and i am not sure how to set it up. anybody have any experience? i went to the pioneer/rf dealer today and they said "most the people that buy that deck, get it b/c of its looks. Not capabilities." so they had no clue or jus didnt want to help me cuz i didnt buy it through them

If you read the owners manual you have to have your key on, turn the deck off then hold the eq button {thats the button to use on mine not sure of yours tho} then the face flips down and says auto eq. With the face open you can plug the mic into the bottom of the face. Then place your mic where you want it hit the function button get out of the car and close the door. It plays a buch of static sounding noise out of each speaker to set the eq and time alignment. It usually takes 3 or 4 minutes to do it all. Ive used it with my 8600 and i found that the best place to put it is as far forward on the dash as possible centered. It does a pretty decent job there but everywhere else i tried it the sound sucks pretty bad. It sets your sub level really low but other than that it does a pretty decent job, then you can tweak it to your tastes. Also make sure nothing else is on inside the car that might make any noise as it will mess it up.

Idk about the gains im just running an amp for the sub right now. I imaging if you had the gains all the way up the deck would just set all of the levels low. It does a decent job of getting a nice flat eq in your car to start with tho.

I just did the auto EQ and time alignment on my P980BT. I taped the mic to the drivers headrest, turned off the unit, held eq until it was ready, pressed start and closed the door. It ran for about 5-6 minutes and was done.

It uses a series of white noise patterns through each of the speakers, and automatically adjusts the test levels. If you have your levels set incorrectly (amp) before the test, you won't get good results.

IMHO the auto eq is good, but I don't like time alignment. If I set time alignment to left (drivers position) the sound stage is pinpointed to about 3 feet directly in front of me. Great soundstage, but horrible stereo separation. I like to run w/o time alignment, and have the fader/levels set so the front speakers are providing 90% of the sound. I still have to mess with time alignment to see if it's just a gimic or can actually be useful.

The auto eq is pretty nice to get a starting point. It had the high frequencies a bit too harsh for me, and not enough mid.

I'm not familiar with the 960mp, but I hope my post was a bit helpful.

No experience with that deck but I have hooked up tons of pioneer 7000's and they just have a plug in the back that the microphone plugs into. then you must go to the menu and go to bluetooth, get it to wait for sync-up and do the same on your compatible device.

but your model is a bit older so it may be different, wish i had put in more of those
