Pioneer 'Headunit 'Loudness''

Okay so I got done installing everything and the car sounds a whole lot better!

Anyways I have a quick question. (i searched but thread was from 08) . I have a Pioneer Avic D3 and it has quite a lot of options. More spefically the ''loudness'' option.

I have it off but I need to crank it up to at least half way for the subs to sound good. When I click on loudness the subs hit even at low volumes and sounds amazing.

I have two CVRs hooked to a Kicker DX500.1 I have the bass boost at 0 on the Amp, the gain at halfways and the crossover at 100hz. Any thoughts on that?

I have the stock default settings on the pioneer except i have it on S.Bass and sometimes Powerful settings.

Is loudness okay to have on or what?

Thanks!

the loudness option brings the sub volume up faster relative to the other sound range

example

loud off volume highs 1 bass 1

loud low volume highs 1 bass 2

loud mid volume highs 1 bass 4

loud high volume highs 1 bass 6

in the end it just makes the subs get louder faster when you turn the volume up. but you will realize that after going so far with the volume the subs will stop getting louder.

really you can do the same thing by turning the gain knob up but the loudness feature is safer because after that set point where the bass stops getting louder the radio hold a clean signal to the point at which the radio would distort with the loudness off.

problem with this feature is that most people use it without crossing the door speakers high enough forcing the door speakers to play bass and a lot of bass at lower volume, which can damage the speaker and blow tweeters that arent properly installed with correct crossovers

Loudness has a weird attenuation level that generally is not worth using. If you do use it, remember to tune the amp with a DMM to the desired HU volume level with the loudness feature "ON" for best performance.

In my opinion, don't even bother. It's better to use the sub-level to increase/decrease based on desired output.

I will upgrade to a zx1000 when fund become available. The subs hit pretty good and they are in a sealed box.

I have another quick question regarding the high pass filter.

Right now i believe its off or at 80hz not sure ill have to check.

When i crank the volume up on certain songs the tweeters would try to plass bass and it sounds like crap. Will setting the hof to 125hz help with this? It does not affect the subs correct?

I dont listen to rap mostly a mixtures of rock and pop such as dreaming dragons and avicii and such.

Loudness often gets a thumbs-down because it is rarely used correctly. However, it does serve a purpose. It is a level tracking equalizer based on the Fletcher Munson contour. Human hearing is severely deficient in the lowest and highest frequencies but this behavior changes as amplitude is increased (see graph). By setting your gains correctly and using the loudness feature you will enjoy an equal loudness effect that keeps the sound of your music properly weighted on the top and bottom as you increase/decrease volume. Get it right and it will be very hard to notice this is taking place.

I want to thank everyone who chimed in!

Set loudness on low and my hpf on 125z and now it sounds perfect!

Loving it! Thank you all!

That little kicker 500.1 has some kick. 584 rms

set your lpf to 80 and hpf to 80, set you eq to flat or off and retune your amps gain (do a search on here on how to correctly set up gain on your amp). sounds like you need more pwr for your front speakers too (amp them)

also what front splits do you have and how do you have them wired?
