Hey everyone, new to this site. So my brother totalled his car a little while ago, and its sitting in the tow yard right now waiting to be shipped out to the junk yard. he had a pretty nice system in it, so i went to go swipe it today but i had a really hard time getting the deck out, and ended up going home empty handed. The guy at the tow yard said i only have a few days to go back and get the deck before they tow the car to the junkyard. So my question to you guys is how would i go about getting it out, and what would i need to bring. This is pretty urgent so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Most Pioneers have little "tabs" that slip in on the sides of the deck in a standard install, but if it is bolted in w/o the cage, you may be screwed. You might hae to pull the dash trim and unbolt it.

haha i guess if it comes to that, ill bring a crowbar just incase. but i think they still want to sell parts from it, so i dont know how much ill be able to smash.

any other suggestion?

im not quite sure what you mean about these tabs.
I know that you don't understand about the tabs...that is why I was telling you about them. If you knew about them, you would probably know how to remove the radio.

On the sides of the radio, between the mounting cage and the shell of the stero itself are slots. There are small, thin peices of metal that come with Pioneer radios. They are "L" shaped, with short "_" parts. The longer side slides into the slots at the sides of the radio and releases a catch that holds the radio into the sleeve or cage. Without these resease tabs, it is almost impossible to pull the radio from the dash w/o damage.

Unfortunately, some mounting configurations actually skip the cage altogether and bolt the unit directly into the dash w/o the cage. If the accord uses this mounting configuration, you have to remove all of the dash trim and unbolt the unit.

You have to take the dashboard trim bezel off from around the CD player, that will allow you access to the cage. From there you will either have to completely unscrew the whole cage which I believe requires some more dashboard disassembly, or use the "keys" to unlock the headunit from the cage it's mounted in.

The keys that I refer too are specific to Pioneer brand, they are just little metal tabs that slide down the side of the cage that unlock the headunit from the cage. It should be as easy as sliding them in on each side until you hear a click, and then pulling them out, the headunit should slide out with them. Any local audioshop that has nice people should let you borrow them if you're in a hurry, they don't cost anything at all.
