Pioneer 88prs question

Just installed my 88prs and of course had to start playing with it. I tried the automatic TA and equalizer several times and keep getting an error message. No test tones are being played. I have the speakers connected right because i can listen to music.The microphone is hooked up right too because i can hear when the plug goes in. Any ideas what the problem could be?
