Just picked up my new 2014 Subaru WRX yesterday. At first I was not going to molest this car in any way but once I got a good listen to the stock stereo I knew it had to go. I did a little checking into it and discovered Subaru is known for ***** like audio systems from the assembly line. I ripped the stuff out of my Civic SI in the dealership parking lot so I have a bit to work with (Alpine INE-S920HD, Audison SR4, Audison SR1d, 12" Alpine type R).
I want to keep it simple, I am debating on just throwing in the Alpine head unit and seeing how it sounds. The car does have a factory sub but it sounds like a 5 1/4" paper cone piece of junk. Best case, might go with a complete set up and use what I have but do not want to run big power by any means. I will go from ported to sealed to save weight and space.
Give me some ideas here... I know the stock speakers could end up sounding worse with an aftermarket head unit.
Here are a couple of bad pictures, will get better ones soon.
