Personal advice

About a year ago I got an Infinity 475a amplifier. It puts out 75w at 4Ω, and 90w at 2Ω.

I found that i desire even more power (or efficiency).

So I bridged it to power my front stage, while adding my busted 4channel (only 2 channels work) to take care of the rear speakers. A cheap and easy solution.

But while I did notice a difference of a few notches on the volume dial of my HU, I feel like it still isn't enough.

My front speakers are type-R's, rear type-S's. I'm hesitant to blame it on the lower efficiency of the type Rs, but i have an extra pair of type-S's i can put in to test/compare. But assuming speaker efficiency isn't the problem, it looks like i'm in the market for some new equipment.

But there are a couple of limitations: there aren't that many four channel amps that put out more than 125 watts per channel. And even if there were, there aren't that many component sets that can handle more than 125 watts of continuous power.

I realize there are more variables to the equation... but what should be the first thing(s) i consider in this quest for MOR DEBEEZ?

p.s. -- is this the main reason why people put two (or more) sets of components in each door/panel?

Okay. Clearly I don't want type S front stage components. I was going to get a pair of Polk MM6 (150w RMS) but they are rated at 87db at 1w/1m just like my type R's. Should I be paying specific attention to these sensitivity ratings?

haha i know, i know!

i just compared both side-by-side, and one after the other. neither one sounded louder than the other. The only difference is that the type S sounded like shet while the type R sounded decent.

I can't imagine getting a "more sensitive" speaker will solve the problem... i think i just need... MORE POWER!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

any other opinions? What can/should I do, within reasonable budget?

I just got rid of my sub and my high's amp(T400.2)which pushed my mbquart components nicely I kept my sub amp(T600.2) and put it to my highs it cleaned up the sound a little but didn't really make them any louder I think there's only so much you can pull out of components before you need more of them to get louder they are rated 125w and I'm putting 242w to them I don't think you need more power just more speakers.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize that going with multiple components might be inevitable to gain a significant increase in loudness

sort of related.... before i upgrade amp i'm thinking of getting speakers...

looking at the JBL C608GTi and polk MOMOs still kickin around on woofersetc. at $230 vs $190 it's kind of a tossup.

what's with that thing in the middle of the JBL woofer that makes it look like a coaxial?????
