just wondering wats a safe wattage to throw at the 6.5 momo comp set its rated at 120rms and i am using the crossover and setting gains with a 1khz test tone

120rms is loud but i figured they could be a lil louder

so wats the most i could give them clean power that is but safe for the speakers and not having to worry bout them blowing

well, its not the 6.5, but the DB 6x9, and I feed them 300 without problems. Gains set correctly and all that good shit. Acually, 1 pair did smoke after 2 years, but CC extended warranty FTW.

That being said, 200 is probly a safe bet.

well they arent broke in yet i only have 120rms right now with a 80hz slope set gains with a dmm on a 1khz tone so i think i might wait a few weeks for them to break in and then throw 150 at them the most i have to give them is 175rms

did you feed 300 per speaker or 300 between the two

Be careful with the Polks and exceeding their RMS. Polks sound wonderful, but their tweeters are sensitive, I have blow a few in my day, lol.

You could do 150 RMS to them, but be very gentle with the gains. If they give you any signs of stress, turn them back down.

it was 300 per speaker. Currently I run them at 75 x 4 as I have 2 sets. Acually, thinking about it, I would stick to what you have them at. They didnt like the higher rms. If they are not loud enough for you, look at some more efficiant drivers that are in your amps rms range.

yea i figured the most i would go is 140rms prob will just set it at 135rms and let it be or might go with 150rms since i only have 18 guage running to the comps and i am sure its loosing a bit of power once it reaches the comps, reason for 18 is because all i had at the time.

wat signs of stress should i look for

also would putting the crssover on -6db for the tweet help ease the stress on the tweeter

signs of stress would be a coil burning smell. Also the momo comps are a better driver then the DB line. So it should be fine. and -6 should help the tweeters.

ok i messed with it at -6 and it just doesnt sound detailed even with the hu on +6 so i set it at 0db and the hu on +2 and its about perfect

i think the most i am gonna give them is 135rms

how much power am i loosing using 18 guage compared to 14-16 guage

18 should be fine. as long as its not very very long runs. after a while of playing at higher volumes, feel the wire in a few spots, if it feels warm at all, upgrade.

i played it about 5 mins at high volume and the wire didnt even get warm at all
