People with high SQ subs please help...

Good luck finding anyone here that has much experience with any of those subs. I know a member here named lizardking uses a DLS Nobelium 10", and there is an old thread about 6spdcoupe installing a Nobelium 12". Beyond those very select cases, you aren't going to find much in the way of actual knowledge on those high end subs without going and hearing them for yourself.

Trust me, I tried with the same question you have pretty much. At first it is great when you have all these awesome brands to work with but when almost noone has actually heard them you are back to where you started.

So for me, starting out looking at DLS and Aura subs, I have settled on a Mag simply because information is readily available on it (or available period, I should say). If you have a lot of money and are a risk taker, please buy a Focal or DLS sub and tell us all about it.

i have expierence with OZ audio, Image Dynamics, and a lot of quot\unqote, sql subs such as RE, kicker, aa, blueprint, adire, treo, beyond audio and all that crap.

honestly. the subs people buy on here are for daily driving. they want them to get super loud and retain a fragment of quality, the problem most people have no basis of comparison. you really need to get into a reference quality studio, or a competition level SQ car and listen to a lot of your favorite music.

and honestly. subs like veylodine, DLS, arc, aura, focal, image dynamics, rainbow, and i know im missing others, but the point is this.

SQ is not weather your bass can do 145 decibles. so if thats your goal, then you simply are not looking for SQ. if you are looking for a budget of a few hundred for a (or a pair) of speakers that will sound good and get loud, thats not sq.

the goal of sq is to have a "reference" level stereo. meaning if you put a RTA into your car, that all frequencies should theoritaclly be able to play at the same decibel level (+ or - ~3 decibles). regardless of weather its 45hz or 4500hz. in reality? thats not possible. so we get as close as possible. on top of that, your front stage is WAY more important that your substage. because your sub plays MAYBE 1\20th of all the music you hear anyway. the goal of the frontstage is to have the music come from in front of the vehicle and level with the center of the windshield. if you play a voice on the left side, it should come from the direction of the left side rearview mirror. and vice versa. and a center stage should be right in the center.

that - in a nutshell is SQ. its about reproducing real-world sound. as if you went to an orchristra. they have it all set up so that no insturments overpower the rest, its all real physically made music. and ideally at a concert, you would place yourself in the center of the audiance and a little ways back.

its all about that.

if that is not your goal. then just buy something like a Fi, or a RLP, MAG, type arrgh, kicker l7, w6v2, or whatever makes your dick hard.

sorry for the rant, but a hell of a lot of people dont understand sq on this forum. and it has nothing to do with SPL. my pair of 15's did 139 on the TL. i saw a thread that some guy had a pair of 8's do 138. so you can see my drift.

I've posted a couple places I'm getting back into car audio and I'm amazed at all the loud junk out there...
I'm not being lazy here, (I have been searching) but would appreciate some input on a sub with the following characteristics:

I'm looking for an 8" or 10" (I need to keep the box size under about .75cubic ft)

I am not looking to boom! I am looking for high SQ and I have to admit I'm lost with all the new stuff...

I am just looking for a nice tight clean bass response...I've been looking at rainbow and dls and if there are any owners of those here any input would be appreciated.

If this thread violates the "New members read this" stickie I'm sorry!
I'm thinking of getting the 9" morel supremo subs if they can fit by my kickpanels...although I'll be lucky if they'll fit... they do have a shallow mounting depth if that's any help for your situation. However like you, I'm looking for the best SQ I can get, which means the best placement as well so maybe consider something like these which since they have a shallow mounting depth might allow you to put them in a more ideal location as compared to a larger sub. Of course I know sub placement isn't important but maybe you're looking for any edge you can get to improve SQ or maybe you can't fit a larger sub in where you'd like to have one. Plus morel is known for their excellent quality speakers so based on that alone, this sub should have high SQ.

Your talking my language man. I am only about SQ not SQL or SPL.

Now am I going to go and get $6,500. rainbows to accomplish that? No I would invest that in some tube amps and scanspeaks for my home where you can appreciate it.

In a nutshell I'm just simply looking for a quality SQ sub in the 8"-10" range, I don't want my whole trunk consumed by a sub. The reason I started this thread is being I have been out of the market of car audio for about 10 years I don't know really what's any good anymore. I'm guessing at this point.

For an amp I am using a Helix 500 Mk II, and would like to take advantage of a dual voice coil sub, for the lone sub channel on it.

The plan right now is to drive some rainbow profi 2 way components for the fronts...and I'm debating if it should be the kick version or not.

Could I do better than that? Sure, but I have some priorities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Hope that helps...and I liked the rant. gg gg

Where is Morel available? Just through local distributers or are there any online retailers as well?
