thats what im thinking

boot to safe mode and log in under the admin account. maybe your mom put parental controls on herself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Is your moms account set as administrator? Maybe you need to log in as admin to change the firewall setting. I don't understand why else it would be grey.

This is what I thought. They only problem is, if her account doesnt have administrative privileges then I dont know which account does. :confused:Anyone know the default admin name and password used for XP SP3?

Another weird thing is, I thought you needed to be admin to boot into safe mode? Or am I wrong? Because it allows me to boot into safe mode on her account.

Ok I have now found out it is NOT the firewall that is holding it back. I figured out how to turn it off, and still no interwebz. And by the way, my moms account does have admin privileges so I dont know why it wouldnt let me change it. I am running NOD32 and TUU right now on it to see if there is something bad on there. If not, I am stumped.

try something for me, turn off nod 32 for a min and see if it will connect to the internet. i had an issue w/ that in the past.
Nod32 isnt what is blocking it.I have tried it with everything off, and nothing.

Weird, the default gateway is not the same on the two computers. Could that be the problem? Can I change that?

This is a simple DNS issue most likely. Here are a few steps to try. Reply back with the info:

1) IP addy of Mom's PC

2) IP addy of router (LAN side)

3) DNS server IP addy shown on Mom's PC

4) Ping IP of router and post response

5) Ping 74.125.95.99 and post response

6) Ping http://www.google.com and post response

When trying to ping the IP of the router, it says, pinging with 32 bytes of data, then says request timed out all 4 times.

When pinging google, it says Ping request could not find host.

Please check the name and try again.

As for IP addresses, 192.168.1.101 for my moms, and 192.168.1.1 for the router. This doesnt seem right to me, am I telling you the wrong numbers?

Can you give me #1, 2, & 3 please. Those will tell me all I need to help you. If you don't know how to get them, simply hit Start, Run, then type CMD and hit OK. Now type IPCONFIG /all and that should show you the 3 things I need.

IP Addresss - ?

Default Gateway - ?

DNS Servers - ?
