Ok, normally I am really good when it comes to computers but this one has me stumped. I have googled it for the last day and a half and cannot find ANYTHING.

So, on to the problem. Lets start off by saying, the 3 machines used to connect to the internet at my house are, my computer, my mothers computer, and my xbox 360. I have been using my friends Belkin router for the last couple months and it worked great. It allowed everything to access the internet. Now, he took it back so I decided to get a new router. It is a Linksys BEFSR41. I hooked it up and everything seemed to work fine. That was, until I tried my mothers computer. The internet does not work on it. It says it is connected but when I open firefox, it does nothing. It says "looking up aol.com" the whole time. The only difference I could find in her connection from mine is, under the network connections, hers says "Connected, Firewalled" when mine only says connected. Next I thought, Ok I will disable Windows Firewall, and get a different firewall. BUT, her computer will NOT allow me to turn off windows firewall. It is a grayed out screen when I open it and it is stuck in the on selection. Both of our computers are running Windows XP SP3 and I cannot find anything about this problem. If her computer is wired directly to the modem, it works fine like it should, so it is obviously a conflict with the router. If any more info is needed, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Try going into your mothers computer settings for her wireless network. Go into the settings tab and see if automatically detect PCI/PCID or something like that is selected and make sure the Protocol is set to automatic as well. Try that first than if that dosent work check your linksys reset the router by finding the little dot on the back and resetting it. I dont know if you have security set up but that could be whats happened is your moms computer was setup to work off a certain ip and protocol ip address for the old router.

try and turn off the computers, unplug the modem, and the new router, then plug in the modem first, then the router, then the computers (in that order)
I have tried this. It does not help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

It is not a wireless router. It is wired. I have reset the router to no evail. Another weird thing is, I have a Linksys Ethernet Switch, and when the computers are connected to that, they both work. But then the XBox 360 wont work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

try your computer, in the port that your moms is in. and put your moms pc in a port on the router that you know works.
I have done this also. The 360 and my PC will work in any of the ports, but hers works in none of them. It says it is connected, but I cannot access anything. I think Windows Firewall is conflicting with the router, since her pc is firewalled, and mine is not. Anyone know how to turn off Windows Firewall when I cant do it the conventional way since it is a grayed out box stuck in the on selection? Theres gotta be a Run command that will do it.

you need to figure out how to turn off the windows firewall.

try this

start>control panel>securty center

under firewall choose recomendations.

from there choose the checkbox that says you have your own firewall solution that you will monitor yourself. that should turn off the firewall.
