PC Geeks Help

why not just completely restore the system? I have the recovery/restore discs...I can just move everything I need onto my thumb drive and reformat the HD.Or should I try the daily restore first?

The system restore just brings you back to a certain point you were at with your computer. Like if you severely mess your pc up, you can just restore to before you did anything to it.

You should "reformat" if you can't fix it, but that should be your last resort.

That's what I would do...

AND install XP SP2 afterwards AND leave the SP2 XP firewall enabled before connecting to the Internet.

Well restoration failed. So I'm going to do sys recovery tomorrow once I figure out how many thumb drives I need...I only have 256MB so Im gonna need to borrow some to get the main goodies off here...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

why waste more money? I can just borrow some friend's thumb drives get what I need off of this HD (I need almost 1gb) and restore and call it a day. Since I only have 1/4 of that Im kinda screwed. My friend found a 1gb thumb drive but she gave it to her bf recently. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif So there goes the simpliest idea. I dont want to waste my BBY gift cards on a new thumb drive either to fix a **** computer.

I've had the exact same problem as you. Have you installed any recent drivers? If you had, download an eariler driver version. When the computer was doing this I had no clue what was going on. So what I did, I just used a earily video card driver and that solved everything. Try that 1st. If that don't work, and you have alot of Red X's, I would Scan Disk, check off both boxes *assusming is XP*, restart your computer, let it run through. Then Disk Clean Up. Then disc defeg. If that don't help, Format.

so I choose run and hit chkdsk ...it verified indexes and deleted like 15 things...

so...idnk what the hell it did now

my old pc just had Scan Disk under system tools but this one doesnt...so had to type checkdisk under run
