Ok so I went and washed my car. Came back computer's frozen. Hold down power button, turn it back on. In middle of loading allprograms at startup, my computer restarts itself. It does this forver. I've sat here for 10mins straight and it keeps restarting. What do you think is the problem? the PC is only a couple months old, never had any problems.

I am using SafeMode btw if you are wondering how I am on..

I wonder if you picked up a virus. Could be drivers either corrupt or conflicting, too. This is something not easily diagnosed without being at the machine.

Is this XP? If so... Try this: right-click my computer, Manage, click event viewer, then double-click the sub folders in there. See if you see a bunch of stuff with a red X, use the data to determin where the problem area is.

If you have access to the Internet, you should also go ahead and hit http://www.windowsupdate.com and run "express" until you have no more updates remaining (may have to reboot back into Safe mode with networking and re-run "express" a few times if prompted)

If a driver changed, you could also hit F8 during the boot, just before Windows starts to load and select "last known good" from the menu. That doesn't help often though...

sounds like a sweet virus! or, the fan that kools your cpu stopped working/broke and your computer gets too hot and turns off as a precautionary measure...

use this to see if it will find a virus or trojan of some sort... but it sounds like it could be a hardware issue as well...

my bro's were the last ones using the comp before me....I did remove some spyware just a minute ago running in safemode with my Spybot and Microsoft Antispyware. I do have Norton but it won't open so I cant run a virus scan which is a big problem.

Probably... unless you're pretty savvy and can clean up the mess. Don't forget to have SP2 installed BEFORE you have any form of connection to the Internet. If you have a USB thumb drive, put a copy of SP2 installer (270 MB) on there now, then install it with your network disconnected (after installing the OS) before connecting your network back up. The virus boogies will hit your system within a couple minutes if you aren't behind a firewall and connect to the Internet.

im pretty sure we have a firewall, we have a wireless network and the internet gateway has a firewall.

I just checked the event viewer after that AntiVir thing scanned....tons and tons of Errors. **** what do I do?

pro'lly a temp' fix, but it sounds like that machine would still need some serious cleanup and adding some hefty protection to keep it from happening again.

I have like every protection program u can think of...

Norton, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Microsoft, plus firewall...

Should I just take my comp to BBY or CompUsa and see what they think the problem is? Or should I just do sys restore tomorrow? My parents are going to kill me if I don't get it working cuz they just bought this computer.Everytime my brother comes home from college for a weekend I find spyware all over the computer even though we have all those programs watching and blocking. IT's always the same one too. He seems to cause our comps to fu'k up.

The system restore keeps the stuff you already have on your computer. It just restores to a pervious point, like a few days ago or a week. whatever you want...

"Hefty protection"...LOL, Waste of money. I have 0 av programs/ 0 firewall, i've NEVER had a problem. I guess it just depends on what you're looking at and what you put on your computer.

To original poster, I would definitely try it before you pay money to have someone reformat your computer. Do this:

Press f1 on while on your desktop > Third option down from "Pick task" is System restore > Restore to earlier time > pick a date on the calendar (i say the 20th or so) > Let it restore.

See if you're having the same problems after that.
