parallel, bridged, crossover, what do these mean?

i think i have a pretty good idea of what putting two subs in parallel is (isn't it where you connect one sub to the other sub, then connect that sub to the amp?) but what does it mean to bridge and amp and crossover? also, if i have a 1200 watt amp and i am putting all 1200 watts to one channel which is to my subs, if i connect the subs in parallel will i run 1200 watts to each sub? all help is appreciated.
