panasonic hu install help!

I just got a Panasonic CQ-DFX983U, installed it in a 2003 honda element. when i insert a CD, mp3 or cda format, there is no audio output .. i can see the seconds counting and the id3 tags show up if it is an mp3 CD. The radio works fine with audio, and everything else works great. The only wires i did not connect is the external amplication lead and the optional cd changer lead.
