Painting subwoofer cone... how to?

Just curious why you chose to use two different size subwoofers?
they are in two separate enclosures... ran by different amps.... i have two alpine 10" r's in a center console box ran off of a fosgate t1000.1bd and this 8" ran off of a fosgate 5 channel. i would have done a 10" but the magnet was too big and i did not want to deal with reinforcing my roof as well as having to worry about the box messing up.

I think the majority of people who have said something so far are confused as to why you have 10's and an 8"... Usually a noob thing to do to "make sure they can hit all the different frequencies"...
even though its ran off of a different amp?

Not that it can't sound decent. Just involves more work than needed.

In short, your answer would be use light coats of paint. Tape off surround and such, and let er rip. If you find it that necessary, a light scuffing of the cone to give the paint something to grab wouldn't hurt.

this is what i built.

any critiques?
i say just leave it since its not right next to the other woofers so it wont look out of place and besides you'll end up covering the alpine logo

-my other suggestion is to replace it with a woofer/mid range and use it as a center channel

but if you are intent on painting it

1. light sand so primer can adhere

2. filler primer then sand with 150-200 grit

3. paint then sand with 400-500

4. paint then sand with 800-1000

5. depending on finish you can do a clearcoat then sand with 1000-2000

6. polish (preferably with polisher)

you can add more layers of primer and/or paint with sanding as long as you gradually sand with higher grit each time

Why did you add the 8 to begin with? What were you trying to achieve? Either way your question has been answered tape off what you don't want painted, and spray on a few light coats.

so yeah i have 2 brand new 10" alpine type r's... (the black ones)... and i made a custom fiberglass box that was molded into my roof with 2 6x9's 2 super tweeters and an 8 inch sub... but the alpine 8" has the older style grey color on it.... i want to change that to match. what do i need to buy? high heat paint?

do i need to sand it down then paint it?

(yes im not a ******* "dont paint the rubber surround")

other stupid things to not do?

is it removable so i can paint it easier?...

is it safe? (for my sub)
i read "molded to my roof" and stopped there. idiot.
I saw yes I'm not a dumbass and lol'd.

no??? its 2 6x9's 2 super tweeters and an 8 inch sub

the 6x9's and the tweeters share air space and the sub is closed off
