PA System's Magnetic Influence?

Hey guys!

I thought some of you might know about this, I'm looking for an answer since last week and couldn't find one...

I have a computer I recently built from scratch and it is sitting right besides a huge PA speaker on the floor. I have not yet turned on my speaker since I got my computer, but I was wondering if the magnetic influence of the speaker could damage my hard drive or other components in my computer tower??

It's really close to it, it touches it, and this is only because I don't have another place to put it.

I want to use 2 of these PA speakers as my computer speakers through my Mixing table I have next to it too from my good sound card to it with AUX inputs.

Thanks for the feedback!

That's the problem, I don't know if they are or not. It doesn't say on every page I read about them, not does it says so in the instruction manual... Are you sure about that? Because they are not plugged in, how could they be charged?

The magnet on a speaker always has an electrical charge, what makes the speaker operate is the voice coil creating an electromagnetic field which push and pulls it. The electromagnetic field created by the windings on the voice coil is so small it won't affect the PA speaker being next to your computer.

Alright, because I've been not turning it on before I knew what I was doing... Are you all sure I can turn them on ? I'll do that now and see what happens after your reply.

a speaker works by using 2 magnets:

a permanently charged stable positioned magnet

and

an electromagnet with an unstable position

There is always a magnetic charge in a working speaker, on or off.

I would be more worried about the vibrations having a cabinet touching your computer tower making your hardrive skip and putting nice scratches on your drive.
