Overheating Sub

i have a 91 ranger with a sony cdx-gt630ui head unit, mtx terminator mono amp, 10" kicker cvr sub.....

every once and a while ill get a constant rumble out of my sub even when theres no bass in the music, but the other day my amp had blown the fuse on the unit itself. i replaced the fuse and the sub got really hot and smelled like burning electrical, so i tried switching subs thinking it could be that, but the sub i replaced it with did the same thing...

i noticed that when hooked up the sub pushes out and doesnt play anything, i cant figure it out, but it seems like its getting a sort of constant current to the coils, if that makes anysense at all....if anyone can help me i would be extremely greatful

thanks

mike

hook the amp up without the sub wired to it, and test the voltage at the speaker terminals. tell us what the voltage is.
this will require a digital multimeter

well, to break it to ya nice and quick. If a working condition sub is locking up as soon as the amp powers up without anything cranked out of the ordinary, the amp is probably trash.

I would agree if your amp is putting out strait DC then your amp is done and since you got it at circuit city it is probably not worth getting fixed unless you can do it your self. Does your amp have a protect mode?
