Output and SQ questions

I am building a system for SQ. I currently have a fosgate amp pushing 400 watts to 2 JBL GTO 10's (500 watt rms) in a sealed enclosure. I am looking at new subs. I am going with a single sub setup, either a 10 or 12. I like the IDQ10v3, and it is just a little over my budget to get the 12. I like the output of my 2 10's. If I go ported with about the same watts, would the output be equivalent? If this was done, would SQ be lost by porting? I have read the thread about sealed vs. ported, but havent found my answer to this. Thanks for any help.

Worry about the front stage first and the subs aren't much more than a filler. They should play the smallest portion of the freq range and have the smallest impact on the overall sound of the system.

too bad i gotta spend a boat load of money on my sub stage. my fronts will totally over-power the subs. 2 12"s ported want cut it... sux!!!

nah... want cut it. i listened to dual id xs6.5's paired up with pro horns, and the owners 2 jl w13's ported couldn't keep up. those new id drivers are loud as hell.

matt at id doesn't even know if 3 idmax 12's sealed could keep up.

if your looking for some output with sq save your doe and get you an idmax and port that fvcker!!!

Since I doubt that the OP has horns installed and it is possible to turn horns down anyway who gives a rip if the subs can't keep up with a set of horns. Horns are the anomoly, far from commonplace anyway.

For SQ focus on the front stage. Since you are happy for now with how it's set up fill in the bottom end. In all honesty if the front stage is doing its job pretty much any sub will be up to the task. It doesn't have to be some mythical SQ sub just properly enclose it and give it an amp. The amp doesn't even need to be all that powerful.
